Challenge
BRICK advances economic mobility and educational equity by cultivating networks of support that address every stage of a family’s journey, from pre-cradle to career. BRICK approached What's Good to update their brand to reflect the full scope and impact of their work and to better resonate with funders, staff, and those they serve. Ultimately our goal was to showcase their evolution from classroom beginnings to a leading collective impact organization with a comprehensive network of services for kids, families, and communities.
Our solution
Create an inspiring brand and website that effectively communicates the full scope of BRICK’s services and vital importance of their organization. Amplify the brand through brand launch campaign to engage and grow their community of supporters, partners, and community members through event design and video.
Strategy
With seven program areas across multiple schools in two regions, the breadth of BRICK’s services often led to confusion among community members, partners, and supporters, causing missed engagement opportunities. We worked with BRICK to create a cohesive brand that captures their long term vision, unifies their full range of services, and reflects the vibrant energy of the communities they serve.
We started with a comprehensive brand audit, audience interviews, and collaborative workshops to align with BRICK’s core values and goals. From these insights, we drew inspiration from BRICK’s multicultural community, emphasizing themes of celebration, Black joy, creativity, and community. We also incorporated the “ubuntu” philosophy—“I am because we are”—to represent the cyclical nature of support.
With this updated and aligned vision, we revamped BRICK’s visual design and messaging. Drawing from Afrocentric art and design, we used vivid colors, modern patterns, and dynamic photography to convey joy, empowerment, and unity. Our messaging utilized the “ubuntu” philosophy to illustrate the interconnectedness of BRICK’s programs and its holistic support from pre-cradle to career.
We repositioned BRICK from a traditional education nonprofit to a comprehensive network dedicated to enhancing economic mobility and life outcomes for Black, Brown, and working-class communities. We introduced the tagline “Your Dream, Our Promise” to reflect BRICK’s commitment to supporting each child and family’s journey.

To provide clarity around their offerings and unique approach, we unified BRICK’s services under three main areas of focus —excellent schools, holistic support, and college and career pathways—and refined their mission and impact. We highlighted BRICK’s role as a program incubator and network convener, emphasizing their innovative approach to building partnerships, supporting local change-makers, and integrating fragmented services.
